My guide on Purpose

A lot of us are like YEAH! PURPOSE! but in the same time ... he has no clue what that purpose should be

After you read this article, you will not have this problem anymore ...

Ever get the feeling that you don't know what you want or where you're going in life?

Ever felt you wanna do something big but you don't know what it is?

Phase 1:

      • Awareness of the pointlessness of one's life***

"I'm I just gonna go to school, go to college, work, get married, have kids. retire then die? No, life has to mean something more than this"

Phase 2:

      • Starting to feel that you're meant for something bigger in life, but you don't know what it is***

"Why are people like sheep? I'm inspired by the people in the history books who made a change in the world. Why can't I be like them instead of being a fucking nobody sheep? I wanna cure aids or be like Angelina Jolie in the U.N or go to Africa or something"

Phase 3:

      • Finding something you want to change and feeling in your gut that you are disgusted about people who aren't doing anything about it***
  • Reaction after seeing something very disturbing in the news*

"WHAT! What the fuck is this?! Are people just gonna look at this and not do anything! They're just gonna let this happen!!!?? Why isn't anybody doing anything about this?!!! Someone has to STEP UP God damn it!"

Phase 4:

        • Stepping up, but not knowing what the plan for change is ***

" ... I'm gonna fuckin do something about this. I'm gonna ... uhh ... raise awareness or ... uhh ... get some .... donations .... to ... fund the program so that we can .... uhh ... raise more awareness and ... get ... more donations???... yeah ... YEAH! I'm gonna raise awareness and get some donations! Yeah!"

Phase 5:

        • Understanding that trying to make a change without a plan sucks donkey balls. And realizing that you need a sound freakin strategic effective practical plan to make it work ****

" ... okay this raising awareness thing is bullshit. Its not getting the cause anywhere .... hmmmmm ... Wait ... why does the whole world have to know about this? What do they care? I should only talk to the people who are CAPABLE of changing this. Okay. Hmmmmmmmm. I'll get a bunch of specialists to write a report about this. We'll go to the people of power. We'll see what the people of power want. We'll give it to them. They'll ask what's in it for us. We'll tell them about the report and that we want a lot of money to fund the reformation plan. We'll see if we can get lawyers and lobbyists who sympathize with us. Then we can collect signatures from congressman and do an Act to influence the legislative branch. If the U.S is the leading force to change this first, the U.N will follow. Then maybe the U.S can propose an international convention to legislate a treaty, make some agreements, then make this under international law.

Okay what if the U.S legislative refuses our report and signatures. Then plan B, we'll try with the European Union. If all of them keep refusing, we'll protest and keep making a big deal out of it in the media until they are pressured to do something. If even that doesn't work we'll figure it out an alternative plan later. But at least now I have an initial practical sense of direction .... yeah ... this sure beats that stupid plan about aimlessly "raising awareness""

Phase 6:

      • Either getting there and achieving your purpose or WRITING A BOOK about your LIFE WORK so that someone else can finish what you started. That way someone inspired by you will actualize your dream for you ***

A lot of people lived to see their dream actualized like Thomas Jefferson and Nelson Mendella

But a lot of other people never lived to see their dreams actualized i.e. Malcom X, Jean Jack Rousseau, Moses, Jesus, Mohamed, Bruce Lee, Ghandi, Bhudda, The guy who wrote the Bushido in 712 AD doesn't know that his laws are being used in Japan until this day, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Charles Darwin, Nietzsche and many others ...

And here's the thing, these guys don't have "someone" to finish their work for them. These guys have ENTIRE FUCKING MOVEMENTS to finish their work for them that lasted until this very day. I mean Plato existed thousands of years ago and his influence in changing the course of human history through philosophy movements that LASTED and is STILL LASTING until now.

If it wasn't for Plato's students who DOCUMENTED his work. None of his work would ever get to us.

Most of change starts with someone who writes his vision in a book. Marx wrote the Manifesto, boom, the U.S.S.R happened. All the writings of the Renaissance happened, boom, Modern Europe and the foundation for the New West happened. Abdulwahhab wrote the "Tawheed", boom, Saudi Arabia happened. Guevara wrote books and articles about socialism and guerrilla warfare, boom, new military resistance tactics and Cuba happened. Freud wrote his work, boom, psychology happened

Change, whether good or bad, all starts with putting a vision in a Book/Video/Tape/Article or any form of documentation so that THE MOVEMENT after you die, will have a FOUNDATION to base their movement on.

Are you gonna change the world just by writing a book?

Nope, you have to be AN EXAMPLE of what you write about. A lot of people spent time in prison and got tortured for the ideals in their writings. A lot of people don't. But when you work hard for what you stand for then you, your family and your loved ones WILL GET A LOT OF SHIT from people. At least on a level of your financial problems, or worse, your reputation and your honor. And when people see that you sacrificed through all that and STILL STAYED TRUE to your cause and did not sell out, you become AN EXAMPLE of your writings. And you will also be SUPER RESPECTED, written in history books and become a fucking INSPIRATION to millions.

Boom, now your writings have 1000 TIMES more impact on the world than if you just decided to write -and in the same time- stay on the "safe side" and not *move* or *step up* so you can "pay the bills" or "not get in trouble".

Here is another thing:

Confucius says: "To read is to forget. To write is to remember. To do is to understand"

A lot of knowledge out there is pure abstract BULLSHIT from nerds in the Academic Community who base their entire writing on pure "theoretical research" without a lifetime of personal trial and error experience. They have a fork up their asses about making their books grammatically correct and put a million syllables in their fancy little words and fancy little terms just to make it sound "sophisticated". And they just want to finish the pages in their books with PURE BULLSHIT ABSTRACT FLUFF that has NO REAL KNOWLEDGE VALUE at all. They don't care about making a Change in the world, and the snob's primary concern is to brag with his know-it-all attitude that he has a degree in Harvard.

Lets look at what Confucius says again:

"To read is to forget. To write is to remember. TO DO IS TO UNDERSTAND"

These snob professors in the universities and those posers in the newspaper articles and Talk Shows DON'T DO. They just read and write. THAT'S WHY THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND.

They were never in the midst of the action or in the field to really KNOW ... to really UNDERSTAND. They're just a bunch of people who are full of shit who are DELUDED THAT THEY UNDERSTAND ... They really don't. And the research they wasted their entire lifetime on is exactly that ... WASTE. Because they never IMPLEMENTED it. They don't DO. They just have a lot of bullshit opinions that isn't backed up with DOING.

So if you're a TALKER and you're not a DOER. You are not ready to write your Life's Work for an actual movement to happen unless your Life's Work is based on REAL WORK i.e. DOING not Reading and Writing alone i.e. TALKING.

So you have to be an example.

Which brings me to my next point. Let's look at Phase 3 again:

[edit] ========================

[edit] =========================

Okay Question:

Do you think I felt that way about one issue? Or about a lot of issues?

Yup. I felt that way about a loooooooot of issues. A looooooooot of bloody issues man. But at the end I had to pick one and stick with it. And I did. I picked one issue. I hear you asking: Based on what? Why did you choose that one issue and not the rest?

Okay:

Here is my story:

[edit] ========

The thing that I was disgusted about, the thing that hit me in the core, was this:

I'm Saudi right. I heard another Saudi say this:

Saudi Douchebag: I'm ashamed to tell people where I'm from. I just tell them I'm from Virginia and call myself AL instead of Ali.

Talal (My real name): What? Why? There is nothing wrong with you

Saudi: I know but right now we're really hated

Talal: So? Why do you care?

Saudi: Look man I'm really embarrassed to tell people where I'm really from ...

Talal: ... Fuck you! ...

And I leave ...

Then I realized that this was a common phenomena with not only this dude, but a lot of -not only Saudis- but Arabs in general. They actually think like that. I thought that was seriously fucked up.

[edit] ==

This is the thing that I was really disgusted at that I wanted to change

[edit] =

I went through the whole "I have to go to the media and raise awareness" and whine and complain and bark fault accusations and finger point, but then I realized that was a stupid plan that's not gonna get any results.

I also suck with my diplomacy skills, I'm not really good at being a guest in a Talk Show and actually delivering my preachy message with good presentation. I have weird hair, and if I wanted to be a media man that means I have to cut my hair and start looking "civil". I also have to do a lot of lobbying and ass kissing. I really really suck at that. I'm not good at making a change in this with a political/diplomatic methodology

So in order to make a change, I had to make a change with something I'm good at

So I asked myself:

WHAT AM I GOOD AT?

I do a lot of art. I'm a lyricist, screenwriter, filmmaker, vocalist. I took an acting class out of boredom. I did an acting performance in front of the professor and he told me to meet him in his office.

"Shit, I'm in trouble"

I go

Professor: Talal, what are you doing in Journalism?

Talal: Why are you asking me this?

Professor: You're really good at this. You're the only good actor in class. It would be a damn shame if you don't pursue an acting career

Talal: Acting? Me? I don't know

Anyway, I rented a theater one day. We were scheduled to perform a play. I wrote it, I directed it and I'm the lead actor. One day the actors didn't show up for practice. I got pissed.

"Fuck this! I don't wanna do this anymore! I'm canceling the show!"

They were all like:

"NO! TALAL! We can't do this without you!"

"There is not a single person in the entirety of the lame Arab showbiz who thinks like you. All the good Arab talent go to hollywood and act in English. Then Arab showbiz is left with lame dumbasses who keep us as an embarrassment in the entertainment world. You're the only one who can do this. You can make a change. You have this talent, why waste it?"

"You're the only one who can do this!"

"You're the only one who can do this!"

"You're the only one who can do this!"

"You're the only one who can do this!"

That kept echoing in my head all night: "You're the only one who can do this!"

Then suddenly ... An orange mirage appeared before me. It was Kane from Kung Fu. He was bald. Like he was coming out of the Shaolin Temple:

Kane: Talal ... You're the only one who can do this ... You are the chosen one ...

Talal: Why me? Why can't someone else do it?

Kane: ... You are the chosen one ... Youuuuuuu are the chosen one .... you are the choseeeeeeeen onnnnnne ....

Then he disappears ...

Damn. I didn't know I was that good at showbiz stuff. I thought I was more of a journalism guy. But why I'm getting Cs in journalism classes and As in acting and Film classes?

I saw a Japanese Anime one day. Very popular show. Then I look outside. People are wearing that Anime's T-Shirt. They're getting Japanese tatoos. They start wanting to learn Japanese and they say shit like "Mushi Mushi" when they answer the phone. **en Stefani is immitating the "Harajuku Girls".

I was like "Damn! The whole world were wannabes to what was portrayed in Hollywood. Now the whole world is starting to become wannabes to what's portrayed in Japanese Pop Culture"

That inspired the shit out of me. Hmmmmmmmm. People are becoming wannabes to Japan because of their unique modern Pop Culture. Their art serves modernism more than being stuck in traditionalism (like Arabs). And because they have a powerful Pop Culture, people are being sucked into it. Now when a Japanese dude goes to Europe, he doesn't have to pretend he has a Western name. When he says he's from Japan, people are gonna say: "WOW! That is so fucking cool!". Its their Pop Culture that made the people appreciate their coolness.

Anyway, let me go back to changing the world with Journalism so that I can "raise awareness"

Then out of nowhere, Mufasa emerges from the Sky:

Mufasa: Talaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal ... Fuck journalism!

Talal: What?

Mufasa: You clearly suck at it. You're better at film and showbiz! THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE GOOD AT!!!

Talal: Hmmmmm, yeah ... YEAH! But wait. I'm meant for something big. I'm not meant for entertaining people with popcorn flicks. Fuck that!

Mufasa: Talal. This is bigger than popcorn flicks. The world is in a state of cultural darwinism. Traditional cultures will not survive alone without modern pop culture. People respond to, relate to and appreciate modern art more than static unchanging traditional art. You will lead the modern art movement of the Arab world to a respectable status with film and music. Then instead of being hated, people will think that Arabs are super coooooooooooooooool.

Talal: Yeah but innocent people are being killed. People are starving to death. Our economy sucks. We're over-spending oil money unstrategically and wasting it on palaces. Our future will be destroyed if we don't step up.

Mufasa: Look young one. Every good person wants to change all the problems of the world. And because they get lost amongst a million causes, they neglect their TRUE CALLING in life. Then they die without changing anythinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng

Talal: My true calling?

Mufasa: Yes your Calling. This is your Calling in life. Remember AL whose real name is Ali who said he's from Virginia instead of Saudi? REMEMBER!

Talal: Yeah I remember, I remember!

Mufasa: Do you still want him to be ashamed of who he is? Or do you want people to think he's cooooooooooooooooooooooool.

Talal: So if I make respectable culturally-authentic Arab modern art through film and music, I will restore the respect of my people to the world.

Mufasa: It sure beats whining about it as a guest in a Talk Show.

Talal: .... yeah! ... hmmmmmmm ... YEAH! ... this makes sense! ...

Mufasa: This is your Calling in life young Talaaaaaaal. This is what you are good at chosen one. This is your Calling

Talal: Indeed it is. I feel so full of purpose! YEAH! FUCK JOURNALISM!

And that ladies and gentlemen is the story of how I found my purpose.

Point of the story is:

There is a million things where you'll feel the "Why isn't anybody doing anything about this!" feeling. Pick the one you feel you can really make a difference with i.e WHAT YOU'RE GOOD AT

With my cause, I know in the beginning its gonna be super hard to "Pay the bills". And when I make controversial movies I will get a lot of shit from people. But its my calling, and I refuse to be an insignificant mediocre sheep in life. I'm meant for something big, and this how I'm gonna do it.

1-Be an Example (That means I have to make a lot of masterpieces instead of mediocre art).

2-Write a book about my philosophies about leading a culturally-authentic Arab modern art movement and creating a new Pop Culture for us instead of being stuck in the traditional in a time of Cultural Darwinism. Oh, and put all my DOING experiences there instead of abstract bullshit academic theories.

3-Gather conventions of Arab artists about this and recording it with DVDs and distributing to the world.

4-Establish Art Academies for this cause

5- Whatever, you get the point. YOU GOTTA HAVE A REAL PLAN

So:

Here is the whole point of this article:

"Why isn't anybody doing anything about this!" (Step Up) + Chosen One (What you're good at) + Real strategic plan = Your Calling in life

Lets summarize all the stages:

I wanna cure aids or go to Africa or something"

Phase 6:

      • Knowing what your Chosen-Oneness is (What your good at). And figuring out your Calling in life ***

Phase 7:

        • Be an example of what you want your followers to be like i.e. be a DOER not a TALKER ****

Phase 8:

      • Executing as much as you can do with your plan ***

Phase 9:

      • Document/Write your visions, your vision's plan and your Life's Work so that a movement of your cause can have solid real knowledge-rich guidance that can tremendously help them ***

Now you know how to find your purpose. You have no excuse about "feeling lost" anymore. Step Up when you see something that you feel needs to be changed. Know what your good at. Plan the change. Go!
